  1. May 11,  · In a section about called the "Architects of Rock" there was some great old footage about Alan Freed. At one point he introduces "that great tenor-man Freddy Mitchell to play "Rock n Roll Boogie"". It's "Moondog Boogie" (Moondog was the name of Freed's show) and Mitchell's tenor section-mate is none other than "Big" Al Sears. GREAT STUFF.

  2. The LP lives on in the form of a bootleg CD with 15 additional tracks, all of them Freddie Mitchell Derby sides. The extra tracks have been given new names which barely disguise their original titles. At least Freddie gets some credit this time round as his name appears on the front cover of the CD (shown below). Ripped from vinyl at kbps.

Hen Gates and his House Rockers is a fictional title for seven R&B sides recorded in the late s by tenor sax player Freddie Mitchell 4/5(1).

  6. I can add another LP to the Hen Gates heap: Rock and Roll No. 2 on Plymouth P Front and back cover are same as Rock and Roll 1, with four different titles mentioned on front, followed by "etc.". 7 of the 12 tracks are retitled tracks of the Masterseal LP. I can specify these if .

  8. Records by Hen Gates and His Gators were compiled by taking old R&B masters and repressing them for the emerging rock 'n' roll market. Close inspection of the tracks reveals they were taken from 's Freddie Mitchell masters from the Derby label and given new titles.
